The Nortese is an intentional cross, not a kennel-club breed with a single written standard. Two dogs from the same pairing can differ in size, coat, and temperament, because each puppy inherits a different mix of traits from the contributing breeds.

The Nortese pairs a Norwich Terrier with a Maltese. Size stays small. The coat may be the Norwich's harsh, weatherproof jacket or the Maltese's long white silk, and the ears may stand or fold. A beard and a compact, short-backed body are common.
This is a house companion with terrier opinions. The Norwich side can add digging and a keen interest in small animals; the Maltese side wants people and regular combing if the coat grows out. Keep sessions short. They bark. Handle them carefully around larger dogs and young children.
