The Tibetan Terrier is a medium, square companion dog with a long double coat, a fall of hair over the eyes, and large flat feet made for snow. It is not a terrier.

A medium companion with a long coat that sheds and needs work; a generally cheerful voice and a better fit in a house than in a tiny, ungroomed flat.

The Tibetan Terrier is a companion and herding-watchdog from Tibet, sometimes called the holy dog. The AKC places it in the Non-Sporting Group; the UKC classes it as a Companion Dog.

Temperament

These dogs are typically lively, people-oriented, and a little reserved with strangers. They need more walking than a quiet lap-dog life. They can be vocal.

Training

They learn quickly and remember inconsistent rules. Keep sessions short and upbeat.

Care and grooming

The long coat mats if it is not brushed to the skin several times a week.

Shedding

Low; loose hair is held in the coat.

Health

Tibetan Terriers may develop hip dysplasia, lens luxation, and a neurological condition (NCL) in some lines. Ask breeders about testing.
