The Welsh Terrier is a small, square, wire-coated terrier with a rectangular head, folded V-ears, and a black-and-tan jacket. The outline is that of a workmanlike earth dog, not a tiny toy.

A wiry earth dog who can share a house or apartment if walked and given a job; coat stripping and a ready terrier voice.

The Welsh Terrier is a working terrier from Wales, used on fox, otter, and vermin. The AKC and UKC both place it in the Terrier Group when recognized.

Temperament

Welsh Terriers are typically bold, friendly with their household, and game. They can be stubborn and may bark to announce visitors. They need more work than a quiet toy.

Training

Be consistent and keep sessions short. Socialize them with other dogs while they are young.

Brush weekly and strip or trim the harsh coat a few times a year.

Welsh Terriers are generally hardy. Primary lens luxation and allergies can occur in some terrier lines; keep the dog lean.
